Betamethasone and Neomycin are combined in this medicine.
This medicine is used to reduce inflammation (redness, soreness and itching) of the ear when there may also be a risk for bacterial infection.
Use Betamethasone + Neomycin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
To use the ear drop solution:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before using the ear drops. Ensure that your ear canal is clean and dry.
- Lie down or tilt your head to one side.
- Gently pull and hold your ear up and back. Instil the required number of drops into your ear canal.
- Keep your head tilted for several minutes.
- Repeat steps to administer your dose into the other ear if required.
- After each use, wipe the nozzle with a clean tissue and replace the cap of the bottle.
Do not allow the tip of the dropper to touch any other surface, including your fingers.
Do not share your ear drops with anyone else.
The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your response to the medication.
If your symptoms do not improve after 7 days, inform your doctor.
Instil the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not use Betamethasone + Neomycin if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- fungal infection of the ear
- perforated eardrum
as this medicine may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have a family history of hearing loss.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Individuals who have a certain mitochondrial disease (mutations or changes in the parts of your cells which help make energy) may experience an increased risk of hearing loss with this medicine. Although not routinely done, your doctor may advise you to undergo genetic testing to check if Betamethasone + Neomycin is best suited for you. If you know you have this disease, inform your doctor.
Your doctor may need to perform certain tests to make sure that your kidney, liver or hearing functions are normal before you use this medicine and thereafter depending on your doctor's advice.
Betamethasone + Neomycin may cause burning or stinging of the ear.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience ringing or buzzing sounds in the ear, loss of balance, change in hearing or hearing loss.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking medicines for HIV infection e.g. ritonavir, cobicistat.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from the reach of children.
Protect from light and heat.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Throw away any remaining ear drops 28 days after opening. Mark the date of opening on the ear drop bottle so that you know when to discard it.
